Some of what you feel doesn’t translate.

Relational psychoanalytic therapy for adults living outside their home country. Online, in English, and across time zones.

Perhaps some of this is familiar

  • You have built a functional life in a new place, while parts of you feel lost, without a place. Something feels strange about your identity. The version of you that exists here is slightly edited, or harder to recognize.

  • You carry an unspoken grief for a home that kept moving without you, and the strange solitude of returning to visit only to realize you no longer fully belong there either.

  • In your relationships, you notice the subtle fatigue of living in a second language where humor, history, and emotional nuance require constant, quiet translation.

  • You find yourself repeating familiar relational patterns in an unfamiliar landscape, wondering what you brought with you and what belongs to the displacement itself.

  • You are looking for a space where you don’t have to explain the complexity of living between worlds before you can begin to speak about what hurts.

About

Paulo Silveira

I am a clinical psychologist and relational psychoanalyst based in Brasília, Brazil, working online in English and Portuguese with adults living abroad.

In relational psychoanalysis, therapy is an ongoing, collaborative conversation between two people sharing their worlds. Together, we pay close attention to how your history, your unconscious patterns, and the experience of living between cultures take shape. The relationship itself is therapeutic.

My academic work as a researcher and Ph.D. candidate at the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU) grounds a clinical practice attentive to contemporary forms of subjectivity, displacement, and the need for genuine recognition.

How it works

How the work happens

  1. A first conversation

A first video call to meet, talk about what brings you, and consider together whether this way of working makes sense for you.

  2. Ongoing sessions

If we decide to continue, we meet by video at a regular time agreed between us, usually once a week.

  3. How the work evolves

The work follows what emerges in our conversations over time. Its rhythm and direction are something we review together.
